PWELC Field Trip Day 2/20

The plans are in place for our annual outing to Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center.  The center is just 3-4 minutes off of Hwy 71, about 12 miles north of Willmar.  (see their website for address/directions)

We will begin at 12:00 (plan to arrive at 11:45 for orientation) on Thursday, Feb. 20.  This event is for any child in the yellow group through Teen Scene.  Younger children can come along to observe, but must be in the constant care of an adult (lap, stroller, carseat, etc.) The kids will be divided into 3 age groups and will have the opportunity to participate in 3 different activities.  The two older groups will do "indoor rock wall climbing", outdoor winter survival, and group initiative activities (working together/problem solving).  The younger group will exchange outdoor winter survival for an animal tracking activity (includes some outside time as weather permits) and do the climbing and group activities.   *Have your children bring their outside clothes.

Each rotation lasts 45-50 minutes, so we will be done by 3:00pm.  You are invited to bring a snack for your kids.  There will be a short 10 minute snack break for each group.

The cost for the afternoon is $10 per participating child, as long as we have 20 kids in each age group.  Remember, there are still a few Qdoba cards available...each card sold would pay for a child.  First come, first served.  ;)

Best French Toast EVER!!!

Best French Toast Ever!
1/4 c. flour
1 c. milk
3 eggs
1/2 t. cinnamon
1 t. vanilla
2 Tbs. sugar
pinch of salt
10-12 slices bread
Wiz this up in the blender! Except the bread of course.  The worst thing about regular French toast with cinnamon in it is the first slice of bread gets all the cinnamon that floats on top of the egg batter.  Not this one, its mixed in so good, all the pieces are created equal.  Its just so good, must try!

cabin fever buster

Shaving cream paint for the bathtub.
Put shaving cream in a muffin tin, filling each cup almost full.  Add 2-3 drops of food coloring to each cup (mixing colors is a fun learning tool too) Stir with paint brush.
Let child paint the tub, themselves, or each other.
Spray off with the shower, it will not leave any color on the tub or the kids.  Just FUN!!!

Winter Animals Week - Free templates and craft

Welcome back! If you took a school break, that is.   Next week is Winter Animal week at our house we'll be talking about hibernation (leading into Groundhogs day soon) Migration and the animals that stay here.  Where they live, where they go, what they do, etc.   We will be making Ice Bird Feeders (scroll down)  to hang outside for the birdies that stay here.   Use these templates to color, glue on cotton balls (unwind) for snow covered ground and labels to learn about these animals.  Have fun!!

Ice Bird Feeder, mix water and birdseed, put in a muffin tin or freezable container, add string (while its still watery, push the string down in the seed and leave the loop hanging out)  and freeze well.  It sure won't thaw out around here anytime soon!!!!
Make sure the string is long enough to go over a branch.

Snowman Template

ITS SO COLD!!!!

Stay inside  - Color Cut and paste together.
Add glitter, yarn hair and buttons...then give him/her a name.
